Bryant
Of all the things I have read in this class so far this semester, Bryant seems to be my favorite. I normally do not enjoy poetry of any kind, so it is odd to me how much I really love his poems. I don't know why, but it seems I am reminded often of his poems in my day to day life. They are filled with the beauty of nature and kind of remind me to just enjoy the everyday. They also remind me that life is short, so live it while you can. I love that his poems seem to be able to be applied to anyone, anywhere, in any situation and have a non judging feel to them.

Even though most people don't like Thanatopsis, I do. I taught it to my juniors every year. I was amazed that Bryant was only 19 when he wrote it. I like the contrast between the horrible agony of death (which I always compare to our earthly mourning) and the vision he creates of eternity, which is what I would hope heaven would be like. To have that much insight at 19 to me is amazing. He also mentions that when one dies, he would lie down and drift off, much like falling asleep. When my dad died nearly two years ago, we saw him in agony that night, but then he drifted off to sleep quietly and peacefully after we left. To me that was comforting. I am glad you liked him.
