Crazy Ole Blanche :)
So I just finished up A Streetcar Named Desire. I don’t know what I expected exactly, but that was not it! I really did enjoy this though, and it was a pretty quick read. At first I couldn’t decide if Blanche was a serious con artist, or if she was just nuts. By then end though I was thinking, my gosh this chick is was crazy! I also couldn’t help feeling a little sorry for her. She was my favorite character by far! She was so odd and interesting, it made me want to know more about her! There goes the Psychology fanatic in me again!

I'm a bit disappointed in myself because I've used the extended due date to procrastinate. I haven't even started reading this. Then again, I have two rather large projects due for two of my other classes this coming week, so I'm stressing a bit. I'm looking forward to seeing what it is all about though.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the character of Blanche. She is what kept the play exciting. The mystery behind all she had done and had to go through and or endure is what made me have empathy for her. I must admit there are a few times I wish i could have jumped into the book and give Stan a good old fashioned beat down. I mean it sounded to me like many people would think this Blanche was crazy or nuts, I think she was a bit off simply because of all she had to go through in life. I mean if someone today had to go through the rape, the family being tore apart, the deaths and funerals, the managing the family estate, and the suicide of their spouse I imagine they would be into or doing things way worse then what Blanche did. Yes, Blanche was my favorite and then Mitch, but the only character I did not like was Stan..Great little play though. Nothing at all what I thought it would be when i was told it was a play and it was drama.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was not a fan of Stan, but I also did not like Blanche all that much either. She reminded me of someone and so I go angry with her. I did like the play though. I now know where the screaming of the name "Stella!" comes from. I now want to watch the movie.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this play also. I too, had mixed feelings about Blanche. I felt sorry for her because of her past. But when she was living with Stan and Stella she had a chance to change her life stlye. She chose not to and to keep carring on like she was better than everyone. I must say she was one of my least favorite characters.
ReplyDeleteThe one I truely felt sorry for was Stella. She was put in the middle of Stan and Blanche's competition from the very start.
It seems everyone is down on Stan. I am not saying I like nor condone Stan's actions but, I think he could see that Blanche was a con.He was stressed and crapped in a tiny apartment with someone he hates. Along with a heavy dose of alcohol spells disaster. I have not read the entire play, just what was offered in our book. From what I have read I think Stan does love Stella and the one incident shouldn't label him a women beater.
