Alice Walker

I was delighted to have the opportunity to read one of my favorite authors this pod! Alice Walker is also the author of The Color Purple, which is one of my favorite reads. I actually got the opportunity to go to this play for a theater class I was taking this semester as well; it was amazing! I love how her themes often revolve around being true to ones self, hanging on to your heritage, and most strongly; sisterhood and family. It is an inspiration to see families stick together like the mother stood up for Maggie in Everyday Use and Nettie and Celie, sisters in The Color Purple, stick together even across continents.

  1. I have not read the Color Purple, but you are maybe the twentieth person who has said it was a good read. I do agree that I loved how the mom stood up for her daughter in Everyday Use. From what you have said, I will definitely make room sometime soon to read The Color Purple especially since I did like the short story Everyday Use.

  2. I love Alice Walker. I loved watching the movie "The Color Paper", it was so good. I heard the broadway play of "The Color Purple was awesome. I was very disappointed, that I was not able to go see it. I hope it comes to Indianapolis. I will definately be in the audience.

  3. Everyday Use was an excellent story of what is right. It is what every mother should do in that situation, stand up for what is right and for the child who was promised the items first. Dee had no interest in her heritage~~~she changed her name which came from her granddpaerents and before. I have to admit though, I was certain the mother was going to bullied into giving Dee the quilts. I am glad it worked out for the mother and Maggie.
